Scientific News..

Scientists tell us that the evidence the Earth is warming is unmistakable. Increases in global average air and sea temperature, ice melting and rising global sea levels all help us understand and prepare for the coming challenges. In addition to these observed changes, climate-sensitive impacts on human health are occurring today.

The core concern is briefly stated: climate change endangers human health. The warming of the planet will be gradual, but the effects of extreme weather events more storms, floods, droughts and heat waves will be sudden and greatly felt. Both trends can affect some of the most fundamental determinants of health: air, water, food, shelter and freedom from disease.

Human beings are already exposed to the effects of climate-sensitive diseases and these diseases today kill millions. They include malnutrition, which causes over 3.5 million deaths per year, diarrheal diseases, which kill over 1.8 million, and malaria, which kills almost 1 million.

Examples already provide us with images of the future:

  • European heat wave, 2003: Estimates suggest that approximately 70 000 more people died in that summer than would have been expected.
  • Hurricane Katrina, 2005: More than 1 800 people died and thousands more were displaced. Additionally, health facilities throughout the region were destroyed critically affecting health infrastructure.
  • Malaria in the East African highlands: In the last 30 years, warmer temperatures have also created more favorable conditions for mosquito populations in the region and therefore for transmission of malaria.
  • Epidemics of cholera in Bangladesh: They are closely linked to flooding and unsafe water.
These trends and events cannot be blamed solely to climate change but they are the types of challenges we expect to become more frequent and intense with climate changes. They will further strain health resources that, in many regions, are already under severe stress.

Every Little Helps...

The little things one can do in order to STOP adding to the destruction of the planet. It won't necessarily stop Global warming but theres no need to add to it.
  • PARK IT.. Leave your car at home for a day (or a week or a month) and try walking or biking. If work is too far away to walk, take public transit or carpool. (One city bus eliminates the emissions for 40 cars).
  • SHUT DOWN... Turn off the lights, the computer and the TV when they are not in use.
  • WHERE IS THE BEEF... Try eating meat-free at least one day a week.
  • EAT IT... Choose foods produced organically, locally and in season.
  • LET IT ROT... Put a composter in your backyard or use your green bin to reduce household waste.
  • DON'T BE IDLE.. Turn off your car's engine if stopped for more than 10 seconds.
  • KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE TEMP... Set your thermostat above room temperature in the summer and below room temperature in the winter.
  • BRIGHT IDEAS... Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs).
  • DON'T DUMP IT, BLUE BOX IT... The simple act of recycling has more impact on the environment than the average Canadian thinks.

Early Warming Signs... Beware

Melted ice which the polar bears live on, thus they are endanger due to the effects of global warming.

Pictures of before the effects of global waring begun and pictures of the same icy areas after global warming had been detected.

On the left is a picture in the past before global warming and on the right is after global warming. Most of the ice has melted into water, which is a sign of things to begin, such as flooding and sea level rise.

Global Warming = Bad Health???

The United Nations has said that global warming and its effects, including a rise in air and sea temperatures and extreme weather patterns, is not only dangerous for the planet but is also dangerous to human health.

In addition to global warming causing more frequent and more severe storms, heat waves, droughts and floods, climate change affected the quality and availability of water and food which is our fundamental determinants of nutrition and health.

the often-overlooked reality needs to be recognized, the protecting human health is embedded in the heart of the global climate change agenda.

Problems like malnutrition and climate-related infectious diseases will take their heaviest toll on the most vulnerable small children, the elderly and the infirm, adding women living in poverty faced particular risk when natural disasters and other global-warming related dangers strike.

Climate change is real, it is accelerating and it threatens all of us.

Is Oxygen actually healthy and can sea creatures help in the war to combat global warming?

Some of the oxygen we breathe today is being produced because of viruses infecting
micro-organisms in the world's oceans.

These organisms are also responsible for
removing carbon dioxide from our
atmosphere and locking it away in their
bodies, which sink to the bottom of the
ocean when they die, removing it forever and limiting global warming.

At least a proportion of the oxygen we breathe is a by-product of the bacteria suffering from a virus infection, viruses appear to be of central importance in the planetary process. In fact they may be essential to our survival.

Guess Whos Back...

Most have heard of the inconvenient truth that was presented by Al Gore. After his failure to become the united states president, everyone thought he had been defeated.

Barack Obama confidently agreed to to giving Al Gore a high level post in his administration. Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in figuring out how to solve the problem of climate change.

"He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues but climate change is real." www.wonkette.com

So he and Al are wonderful comrades in plotting a resurgence of global Socialism.
